'What is AI?' Video Series

HTI has partnered with CSIRO’s National Artificial Intelligence Centre to produce a series of training videos aimed at people who are currently using or looking to use AI in their organisation. These videos provide guidance on how they can make responsible, human-focussed decisions regarding AI technology.

This video series is designed to give a crash course in human-centred AI in easy-to-understand language, including why AI is so transformative, why governance matters, and how you can ensure that AI is used responsibly in your business. The aim of the videos is to equip decision makers with the strategic AI skills that they need to consider how new technologies can be designed, implemented and used in ways that embed human values.

This work is part of HTI’s Skills Lab which was established to build Australia’s capability in strategic skills associated with AI and other technology, by building skills in procurement, implementation and oversight of AI.

The University of Technology Sydney’s Human Technology Institute partnered with CSIRO’s National Artificial Intelligence Centre to produce a series of training videos aimed at Australians currently using or looking to use AI in their organisation. As part of the All Things All Creatures team, I took these complex ideas and transformed them into easily digestible videos with a bespoke visual language. The process was iterative with the script, storyboards, animatics and final videos taking shape in close collaboration. With many stakeholders and in-depth information, it was critical to have communication and creative guidance at the forefront of our workflow.

Storyboard

Storyboard

Each video was storyboarded in collaboration with project stakeholders to ensure the visuals accurately depicted the content. AI can be quite abstract, so this was an important stage of the creative process where we brainstormed the best way to visually represent some of the high-level concepts, but also keep the videos grounded in reality.

These styleframes show the initial visual language we developed, which we then built upon with footage and illustration so that we had more options at our disposal.
